WPPI 2008 Convention and Trade Show
Although it's still six months away, the WPPI 2008 Convention and Trade Show is
already shaping up to be our best ever. A few details have already emerged. For example,
our lineup of Plus Class instructors has been announced; it includes Jerry Ghionis,
Bambi Cantrell, Yervant, Fernando Basurto, Mike Colón, Matthew Jordan Smith and
Christian Lalonde. Some of our MasterClass instructors will be Michele Celentano,
Jim Garner, Mike Larson, JB and DeEtte Sallee, Kevin Kubota, and many more.
Platform speakers will include Rodney Bailey and Dan Doke, Eric Meola, Tom Muñoz,
Ken Sklute, Eddie Tapp, Nancy Emmerich and Catherine Hall, to name just a few.
We'll also be adding new events this year, such as the Breakfast Club (a morning
program on marketing and promotion) and the Young Guns (an evening program featuring
cutting-edge photographers). This year will also see the return of last year's
successful First Ladies of Photography forum, which will feature a new panel of
"first ladies." WPPI will also be coordinating with new sponsors ASMP (American
Society of Media Photographers) and APA (Advertising Photographers of America) to
expand our horizons even further and to bring you the best in photography today.

Inspiration From Across the Globe
WPPI members Pete and Lillian Wright recently took an exciting trip to Manila,
Philippines, to participate in the 2007 Photo Summit. Pete describes the eye-opening
experience below.
We experienced a life-changing and personally rewarding event. Traveling across the
globe to a region that we never envisioned was bound to be an adventure we would never
forget. We were one of two husband-wife teams invited to give a program, the other
team being Don and Nancy Emmerich, and together the four of us were given an opportunity
to experience the incredible Filipino culture and amazing hospitality.
The kindness and humility of the people of the Philippines were not anything we had
experienced before, and we already have grown to miss each day. We will forever cherish
their courtesy and hope to visit our new fellow photographers and friends again in the
very near future.
During the Photo Summit, we shared our photography, posing and lighting techniques,
and marketing strategies. We were pleasantly surprised at the caliber of photographers
that we met in the Philippines, and it was quite interesting to see the different styles
of photography, the various ways they market themselves to clients, and the way their
products are sold. Their talent and style reminded us of the Australians and why we
love to hear them speak here in America, because they bring such a fresh new approach
to photography and how they envision the world.
When it was all said and done, we felt that we had learned as much from them as they
had learned from us, if not more. We found that we really needed to keep our finger on
the pulse of the entire world; some of the most original, creative and unique work is
being produced abroad. With a little bit of research, we each have an opportunity to
stumble onto the next big thing just by expanding our horizons. In a time when each
of us is looking for that extra edge to set us apart from our competitors, it's worth
the time to take a little trip around our now seemingly small world.

Blog Roundup
This month, our blog roundup takes us to the big D--Dallas, Texas. Our first stop is
Kevin Jairaj's blog.
Kevin is a WPPI speaker and a past award-winner in WPPI print and album competitions, and
his newly redesigned blog offers insights and images from this fine photographer.
While you're at it, don't miss JB and DeEtte Sallee's
blog either. This
Dallas power couple is a mainstay at WPPI, and the blog shows off their wonderful images;
it's also a good way to keep up with their busy speaking schedule.
