Fine Art Printing for Photographers: Exhibition Quality Prints with Inkjet Printers

By Uwe Steinmueller & Juergen Gulbins; Foreword by R. Mac Holbert
Rocky Nook, www.rockynook.com
October 2006, $44.95, 246 pages

Today's digital cameras produce image data files that make large-format output possible at high resolutions. New inkjet printers, now affordable to the serious photographer, are capable of printing with great precision at a very fine resolution, providing amazing tonal range and image permanence. Knowledgeable photographers can now create prints comparable to the highest-quality darkroom prints on photographic paper.

Fine Art Printing for Photographers provides the necessary foundation for fine art printing: the understanding of color management, profiling, paper and inks. It demonstrates how to set up the printing workflow and guides the reader through the process of transforming an image file to an outstanding fine art print.

In the book's foreword, R. Mac Holbert, co-founder of Nash Editions (recognized as the world's first digital printmaking studio) observes, "It is information like this that has helped to raise the quality of digital output and reduce the traditional art world's resistance to the use of digital tools in art."

Images from the Road

By David Michael Kennedy
Self-published, www.davidmichaelkennedy.com
November 2006, $220, 106 pages

In 2004, photographer David Michael Kennedy sold his house and studio in Santa Fe, NM, and hit the road. His home for the next two years would be a vintage 1960 Airstream Travel Trailer. Besides cameras and darkroom equipment, Kennedy brought along fellow artist and girlfriend Heather Howard, and his dog, Henry Crow Dog. His aim was to photograph what is left of an America that exists quietly outside the frantic zeitgeist of this era.

This self-published book features images from that two-year road trip. The beautiful brown Italian linen hardcover Images from the Road is a limited edition of 45 and five artist's proofs, each signed and numbered. Each person who buys a book will receive a $100 discount off their next print purchase of Kennedy's new or existing work. Due to the limited number of books available, call or email David to reserve yours: dmkphoto@earthlink.net, (505) 660-3312.

Gray Matter: Why It’s Good to Be Old!

By Bob Elsdale
Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC, www.andrewsmcmeel.com
August 2006, $14.95

As a historic herd of baby boomers turns 60 this year, award-winning photographer Bob Elsdale offers interesting sources of inspiration in Gray Matter: Why It's Good to Be Old! Merging his creativity and photographic talent with advanced technology, Elsdale captures playful pachyderms displaying incredible "geriantics" beyond belief. Elephants, like humans, can live to a ripe old age, but when it comes to fun, they don't let a few wrinkles stand in the way of a good time. Ever seen an elephant surfing? How about hang gliding? Along with images such as these, this book offers wry reminders that there are a lot of advantages to getting older and endless opportunities to enjoy them.

Bob Elsdale discovered his passion for photography in college during the 1970s. He currently lives in London, where he primarily creates images for the advertising industry in Europe and the U.S., and has received several international photography honors.
