Bill Hurter Gives Brooks Commencement Address

Rangefinder and AfterCapture editor Bill Hurter recently gave the commencement address at Brooks Institute on December 21, 2007. There were 130 graduates from Brooks' four departments: Professional Photography, Visual Journalism, Film and Video Production, and Graphic Design. Hurter, a Brooks alumnus, also gave the commencement address 20 years ago. He was awarded an honorary Masters of Fine Art degree in recognition for his contributions to the world of professional photography and the photographic industry. The commencement was presided over by the president, Roger C. Andersen and provost David Litschel.

Coming up in Rangefinder and AfterCapture

This month's 234-page issue of Rangefinder is devoted to the photographers who understand the power of shooting in black and white. Check out the formidable work of Robert Knoth, whose documentary photography covers nuclear devastation abroad; the legendary figures in Marc Hauser's portraiture; and some of photography's own shooters immortalized in the work of René De Carufel. Also, don't miss the February issues of Rangefinder and AfterCapture. In our Rangefinder convention preview issue, we'll profile many of the speakers you'll hear in Vegas, while the February/March AfterCapture will offer a comprehensive buyer's guide for the consummate digital imagemaker.
