I first met Mike—whose business, Portland Pin-Ups, is based in Portland, Oregon—when we were teaching at a conference in Toronto. Over a few strong beers (alcohol content is higher in Canada!) we were giving each other a hard time about our respective accents. While all of us argued that we didn’t have thick ones, after a few pints it wasn’t hard to figure out who was from where. That said, the Canadians in the group loved to tease Mike that he had more of an Aussie accent than that of his homeland. This for some reason really flustered Mike, and that was quite enjoyable!
Since that workshop, Mike’s continued his teaching, and has become very well known for his retro style and creative approach to photographing women. Mike’s images are witty, fun and delightful.
His business model, which he teaches in his seminars, and workshops is also very simple yet effective.
Mike’s also our big winner in the first half competition this year! He took first and third place in Glamour category, as well as a tie for third place in Illustrative/Editorial category!
Congrats to you Mike, welcome to the club!
